Qatar Foreign Ministry Warns Against Normalizing Regional "No War, No Peace" Status

Doha, September 08, 2026 : The State of Qatar has warned against normalizing a prolonged "no war, no peace" status in the region, saying continued instability is draining the resources and economic and developmental potential of countries a cross the area.

Ministry Warns of Global Economic Fallout

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the repercussions of this instability extend beyond the region, impacting the global economy, supply chains, and international economic stability.

Qatar Outlines Ongoing Diplomatic Efforts

The remarks came during the ministry's weekly media briefing, delivered by Director of Media and Communications Ibrahim bin Sultan Al Hashmi, who outlined Qatar's diplomatic and political efforts to help end the current deadlock and create the conditions needed to resume dialogue between concerned parties.

Al Hashmi affirmed that Qatar continues to coordinate actively with regional and international partners to revive negotiations and push toward political solutions, pointing to ongoing cooperation with China, coinciding with the visit of HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani to Beijing.

He explained that the goal of these diplomatic efforts is to resume dialogue and put forward practical, balanced ideas that address the genuine concerns of all parties, helping create an environment conducive to sustainable solutions that tackle the root causes of regional crises.

Political Will Cited as Key to Resolving Crises

Al Hashmi stressed that the success of any mediation effort depends first and foremost on the presence of political will among the parties involved, affirming that a return to dialogue and peaceful means remains the only path capable of sparing the region further tension and escalation.

Reopening of Strait of Hormuz a Top Priority

On maritime security and its economic implications, Al Hashmi said the immediate and unconditional reopening of the Strait of Hormuz remains a top priority for Qatar and the wider region, given its critical importance to global trade, energy supplies, and regional economies.

Qatar Responds to Iranian Claims on Strikes

Asked about Iran's citation of a Qatari document to claim its strikes were limited to US military facilities, Al Hashmi said Qatar has sent hundreds of official letters to the UN Security Council and General Assembly, documenting in detail that Iranian attacks had directly struck civilian and economic facilities inside the country. He said these communications form an official record before the international community, reflecting Qatar's approach based on transparency and international law.

Despite these developments, Al Hashmi said Qatar continues to approach the crisis through a balanced, responsible diplomatic lens, stressing that this is not a time for assigning blame, but for continued dialogue and negotiation to secure regional stability.

Qatar Responds to Israeli "Hostile State" Remarks

Addressing recent Israeli statements describing Qatar as a "hostile state," Al Hashmi said Israel's actions in the occupied Palestinian territories undermine its own claims of being "the only democratic state in the Middle East" or possessing a "moral army."

He noted that Qatar has faced sustained smear campaigns and political targeting over the years, but that these efforts have consistently been refuted by facts, with Qatar's role as a responsible and trusted mediator well documented. Al Hashmi added that Qatar will not be swayed by statements aimed primarily at domestic audiences, and will continue its diplomatic and humanitarian efforts to preserve peace and stability regionally and internationally.
